MPLS network for terminal 2

The Flughafen München Gesellschaft (FMG) is a service provider for all companies and service providers located at the Franz Josef Strauß airport based on a uniform network infrastructure. At the same time, the IT department of the airport is responsible for a number of additional systems, such as radio LAN, wireless access points, TC systems and systems for public announcements by loudspeaker.

In a joint project with FMG and the planning office NCB, NK Networks & Services realised the fail-safe, flexibly expandable network for the new construction of terminal 2 including interconnection with the existing network. The solid MPLS network in terminal 2 offers a flexible transport technology and efficient traffic engineering mechanisms for fast and reliable data traffic. As a result, new subscribers can be flexibly and rapidly added to the current 7,000 clients of the airport network. Through a subsequent migration to a new component generation, the backbone of the network from NK Networks & Services was made even more powerful. Through a migration to a higher-performance version, the AXIANS security specialists were able to improve the firewall solutions to effectively protect against attacks on the applications of the vast airport network.
